We tried out the La Palina 1948 Diadema and it’s one of our favorites for this summer.
The La Palina 1948 cigar honors Bill Paley, the chairman of La Palina and grandson of the original founder, marking his 75th birthday in March 2023. La Palina has a long-standing tradition of celebrating its founders and their significant milestones, a tradition that continues over 125 years since its inception.
To create this special cigar, La Palina partnered with the renowned Oliva family. The La Palina 1948, crafted in the Olivas' famous Nicaraguan factory, boasts a vintage aesthetic with depictions of Estelí and Manhattan as they were in 1948—the year Bill Paley was born. It features a two-year-aged sun-grown Sumatra wrapper from Ecuador and Nicaraguan binder and filler from the Oliva farms.
The cigar offers a medium strength and delivers flavors of toasted cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and hints of ginger snap cookie through the finish.
Smoking the La Palina 1948 is a true delight. From the moment you light it, the cigar showcases impeccable construction, ensuring an even burn and a smooth draw. The flavors are rich and nuanced, with each puff revealing layers of complexity. The toasted cedar provides a warm, woody base, while the nutmeg and cinnamon add a spicy sweetness that is both inviting and intriguing. The subtle touches of ginger snap cookie on the finish offer a delightful surprise, rounding out the flavor profile beautifully.
Enjoying the La Palina 1948 Diadema while relaxing on the sunny Montecristo patio at Havana Phil’s in Greensboro made the experience even more exceptional. The ambiance of the patio complemented the cigar's rich flavors perfectly, creating a memorable smoking experience. Whether you are a seasoned aficionado or a casual smoker, the La Palina 1948 delivers an extraordinary experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
